Porcelain Flooring

Everything you need to know for all your flooring needs

Learn About Porcelain

Porcelain tile is very durable and commonly used in home and commercial settings for flooring, showers and countertops. These tiles are more dense and much harder than ceramic tiles. Color on porcelain extends from top to bottom. The tiles are made from heating fine porcelain clays and other natural materials to temperatures between 1,200 and 1,400 °C.
Some porcelain is made to look like travertine or other stone patterns. Like ceramic, porcelain tile is nearly impossible to stain. It is also scratch-resistant and easy to maintain.

We have proven over and over to be the best Tucson company at cleaning porcelain tile and grout, whether it is on flooring, showers or countertops. Our process for cleaning porcelain tile and grout consists of using appropriate equipment and machinery, as well as hand-washing corners, edges and hard to reach areas. We use a combination of neutral pH cleaners and degreasers that are safe for your tile, your family and the environment. The grout in between the tiles is usually a main concern due to discoloration from traffic and poor maintenance. Improper or aggressive cleaning can cause damage by opening the pores of the grout, making it more susceptible to staining from pet accidents, dirty mop water, spills, and grime/asphalt from shoe traffic. Grout is concrete. It is extremely porous and can become stained when not sealed. Our advanced coloring process for grout restoration completely renews the grout and provides the best seal possible.

As with all of our work, our technicians move most furniture excluding breakable and smaller items. We pay close attention to detail and ensure there is no dust and no mess created. We are extremely careful not to cause any damage to adjacent surfaces such as walls, baseboards, cabinets, appliances and carpets.

When it comes to the repair of tile and grout, we offer a variety of services. Whether it is flooring, showers or countertops, we repair holes, cracks and other blemishes.

Cracks in tile or grout

Tile and/or grout sometimes cracks or buckles with expansion and contraction of the substrate (surface underneath). This is usually caused by temperature change. Depending on the severity of the damage, we can repair it or arrange to replace.

Porcelain tile does not require seal after installation. It is sealed during the manufacturing process with a glaze. However, the grout should be sealed to protect it from future staining. This will ensure routine cleanings to be much easier. Our grout color sealing process consists of applying a high quality penetrating and topical color sealant with a specialized applicator designed to work the seal into the pores of the grout. We also offer a clear penetrating seal. This type of seal also provides great protection of the grout, but it will not restore the appearance of the grout. After cleaning, grout can still appear to have staining. In this case, we recommend a color sealant.

If you are not sure what type of sealant is on your Porcelain, call Tucson Sun Valley Floor Specialists at (520) 440-2433 for a free estimate.

Porcelain should be maintained through frequent sweeping and mopping, using appropriate cleaners and fresh water. Be sure to change mop bucket water multiple times. This keeps the water clean, ensuring the tile and grout will continue to look great for years to come.

Professional Work

Professional cleaning and sealing is recommended, on average, every 5-7 years depending on traffic and usage. When properly maintained and cared for, this tile will stay beautiful and functional for generations.
